Designating specific shelves for files, folders, media, and even client projects can be a quick fix to your disorganization problem.  Most people who have a home office often find their desk cluttered with… stuff.  Clearing that space and putting your small desk “decorations” on a shelf is a great way to create space.

Label Everything

I know it sounds tacky, but putting labels on your drawers, folders and storage areas is a great idea. This will make it easier for you to make sure that things are put where they belong, AND find things when you are looking for them. This will decrease time lost looking for business cards, contact info, and important documents.

Rearrange Your Space

Something as simple as installing some stylish kitchen cabinets across the wall is a great idea.  Moving your desk around to the right position in the room can create a lot more space and completely change the energy to a positive one that allows you to focus on work. Pick furniture that is visually appealing and makes you feel like a pro. There is nothing wrong with adding a small sofa or comfortable chair to your office.  Having a comfortable place to read over reports, or write important emails is priceless.  This is extremely important if you spend a good amount of time in front of your desk.

Make sure that your room has ample lighting. This may not seem like a big deal, but studies have shown that certain lighting can either increase or decrease your productivity.

If you spend a good amount of time in front of your computer, you might want to consider getting a larger screen or even a wall mounted television.
